How Prose works

Prose is Pinery’s AI writing companion built into the editor. You chat in natural language; Prose plans steps and returns drafts, edits, search results, or images in the panel.

What Prose can do

  • Draft new chapters (with or without generated images)
  • Rewrite selections, sections, or whole chapters (tone, length, clarity)
  • Proofread with accept/reject suggestions, each labeled and shown as a diff
  • Read the visible chapter, a named chapter, or the entire book—reviews and critiques are grounded in the actual text
  • Search the book in plain language
  • Summarize structure, word counts, readability
  • Generate standalone illustrations
  • Look at images already in your book and reference them
  • Remember project and user preferences (bounded memory)

What you see

Each turn may include:

  • A short chat message from Prose
  • Activity while tools run (search, outline, etc.)
  • Rich blocks: chapter drafts, proofreading lists, and images

You stay in control—every proposed change is a diff you accept or reject.

Privacy and network

Prose sends your request and relevant document context (selected chapter, outline, etc.) to Pinery’s AI service over the network. An active subscription is required.

Do not paste secrets (passwords, API keys) into Prose. Treat suggestions as drafts you edit and fact-check.

Skills and memory

  • Skills — markdown instructions you or Pinery provide (/tighten-prose, custom SKILL.md files).
  • Memory — short notes Prose can store when you ask (“remember my character names…”).
