Blue Canoe Ltda (“us”, “we”, or “our”) operates the https://pinery.app website and the Pinery macOS app, including Prose, our AI writing companion. This page explains how we handle information when you use Pinery.
Your manuscripts (local by default)
Your manuscripts, Prose chat history in the app, and Prose memory or skills live on your Mac (and in iCloud if you choose to sync them there). We do not upload your entire book to our servers just because you open the app.
When you use Prose
Prose needs network access. When you use it, we send your request and the relevant document context (for example a selected chapter, outline, search results, or other material the agent tools include) to Pinery’s AI service. That content is then processed by third-party AI providers so Prose can reply, draft, proofread, search, or generate images.
Do not paste secrets (passwords, API keys, or similar) into Prose.
We do not train on your content
We do not use your manuscripts, Prose prompts, chat history, document context, or related content to train AI models — ours or anyone else’s. Prose request logs (below) are used only to operate the service, not to improve or train models.
Server retention (up to 30 days)
For a limited period of up to 30 days, we may retain request and response logs from Prose (including prompts and document context included in those requests) on our servers. We use these logs to:
- Monitor for abuse and safety issues
- Operate and meter Prose (usage and budgets)
- Investigate misuse or reliability problems
We do not use these logs to train AI models. After that period, they are deleted automatically. Image bytes from generation requests are generally not kept in those logs; prompts and related metadata may remain for the same retention window.
Identifiers
Pinery does not require a named user profile or email to use Prose. We identify your account with a random UUID. To manage subscriptions and prevent abuse, we may also store a device installation identifier and Apple App Store / StoreKit transaction identifiers. We do not require your email address for Prose.
Third-party services
AI providers
Content you send through Prose may be processed by:
Please review each provider’s privacy policy for how they handle data.
Infrastructure and subscriptions
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting and storage for our API and logs
- Cloudflare — DNS, TLS, and edge delivery for our website and API
- Apple — App Store / StoreKit for subscriptions and purchase verification
App stability and diagnostics
To maintain and improve reliability, Pinery may send crash and diagnostic reports when the app or our API encounters an error. This data is for debugging and may include device and app technical details and stack traces. It is not used as an archive of your Prose prompts or manuscripts.
We use Sentry for this. See the Sentry Privacy Policy.
Contact Us
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected]. Prose request logs age out automatically after about 30 days; we do not currently offer a self-serve export or deletion portal for those logs.
